This was the Panarama documentary put together after the “embed” trip that Alastair Leithead did with Peter Emmerson and Fred Scott in November 2006.
Alastair jokes: “I was the BBC’s Afghanistan correspondent from April Fool’s Day 2006 to Halloween 2008,” and he spent two and a half years living in Kabul and spending time with troops from many different nationalities.
Most of the 23 embed trips he did were with British forces.
This was the first documentary to be done on the British war in Afghanistan from the front lines and it won the team a Bayeux-Calvados war correspondents award in 2007.
