Welcome to Off-grid and ignorant in Portugal written by me, Alastair Leithead. After nearly 20 years as a BBC foreign correspondent, I’ve updated my status to “Portugal trainee” as my wife Ana and I are learning how to live off the grid in rural Alentejo on the country’s southwestern coast. We’re learning about trees and mushrooms, wine and beaches, stars and solar (powered) systems…and are collecting stories along the way.
