Love it. A compelling story about the "commonplace" here in Portugal. So enamored are we of the humble sweet potato that, if we're being lazy, we'll buy a bag of frozen ones at Lidl and cook them in the air fryer!

As someone who loves batatas-doces and had eaten them all my life in Portugal, may I say you are indeed lucky to have that festival nearby. The sweet potatoes I ate this week here in the southern US do not compare the slightest to the ones there.

Atenção! If you want to grow sweet potatoes "get some of the little blisters into the ground", you do not plant a ( botato) , as one does with ordinary potatoes. You just plant the top foliage, called (rama). This is watered into the land, along with plenty of compost or green matter. Depending on variety, time till harvesting will vary between 6 and 12 months. Boa sorte. DB.

The museums are well worth a visit - there are four (although we've only been to the Municipal one which is Arabic roots, farming technology and a megalodon tooth! They're really helpful and nice there. The sourdough pizza place is great for lunch too!
