I was pointed in the direction of your blog by a very close fiend and former colleague and for sure it did not disappoint, Alistair. After several years of owning holiday property, we moved here in August 2019 (to the hills looking down to the sea near Boliqueime) but we love Alentejo. We are not nearly as adventurous (and I am for sure not as young as you!) but we like many of the things you clearly came to the country for. We wish you every success and happiness.
Boa sorte Alastair. I just came across your blog via an article in the Telegraph. It will be interesting to hear more about your exploits in rural Portugal. I am just going through the back dated releases to get up to date in your story. My wife and I have often talked about making Portugal ‘our base in Europe’ as opposed to the U.K. There are some tax advantages for recently retired couples such as ourselves. At the moment we are living in Brazil, in our villa on the coast of Bahia, since December 2019. Not quite the plan to totally retire here but retirement came at the same time as the pandemic, so I guess we will stay until the situation improves. I am English and my wife Brazilian and when in the U.K. we live near Durham. Anyway, look forward to hearing more from you.
