No need to do the British thing and apologise for “searing negativity”: I saw it as searing honesty, acknowledging that there are lows as well as highs with a project as ambitious as yours. Things will not always run smoothly, and there will be setbacks, and you have done a great job of sharing your bad (and good) experiences. Keep going mate, looking forward to the next instalment 😀

To be honest about our journeys to be vulnerable as we take on unknown and untrodden paths is what this world needs more than ever pure honesty in all its forms

Thank you for always being so open that’s how we all connected and it’s often helped us when we have more than once questioned

“What on earth are we doing “ as we said goodbye to one more builder or architects disappeared

There is a book & movie awaiting

Love this and totally relate. We are over 2 years into our Evora rebuild with ever increasing delays and being asked why aren’t you done/open for business. It’s frustrating! Appreciate your honesty and writing 😀

Any chance of hosting guests in late October? If not perhaps spring next year :)

I thought the ‘moaning’ was understandable and just honest! No one wants to read that everything is just perfect and all going to plan, when they know it’s probably untrue. Glad to hear you are rising out of the summer dip. Onwards!

You know what Al, despite everything, your blogs are superb. I’m sure that everyone absolutely understands your frustration and yes sometimes negativity. You have been on a huge learning curve, and I think you and Ana have been remarkable. You have simply kept going. It does start to look much more positive now. I have no doubt whatever that your business will be wonderfully successful. Through it all, you have kept up your blogs which are so entertaining. We have felt your pain and your joys. You have made us cry and laugh. I can see a book coming out of all this. A best seller 😀

Reading your honest reflections and especially the most recent realisations is humbling and inspiring, Al. We have been away from home near Loulé most of the summer (Virginia for the inevitable passing of her father and me for treatment for the big C but we were still privately urging you to ‘bank and review’ the successes and the promise and not over dwell on the challenges. I remember from teaching undergraduate psychology the notion of Yerkes-Dodson law coming in to play whereby any worthwhile action needs to embody an element of anxiety (albeit to a certain point) and there are ways in which your own trajectory reflects the theory but hurts at the time.

Bravo; I’m sure Ana has been an admirable comrade as well as love of your life. You are well placed now!

Loving your dispatches as I am still pottering at my olive grove too. Built 6 structures so far, mostly with reclaimed wood from famous Cypriot venues. I've got a stage deck and the floor of the Keo bar is the old dance floor from Nava night club in Protaras. The entire Keo bar is built from the dance floor panels of Ammos Nightclub Mackenzie beach Larnaca, and the outback dunny is from the boardwalk at the Golden Coast.

Just moved into our new house in Nicosia 2 weeks ago and that is taking priority. I'm replacing 20 year old stuff with new modern tech like I did at the beach villa 5 years ago, which is still like brand new. This resort stuff is just a great pastime with satisfying results isn't it!

I am definitely booking to come and see you as soon as I am able as I think the former Portuguese ambassador to Cyprus has something beautiful near you and he has extended an open invitation.

We are currently relaxing on a Beach in Ferragudo eating sardines at a beach front bar.

I love the Algarve and would like to stay longer, however life in Britain calls !! The pressures of life are all relatively small compared to the wonderful gift of nature. Keep going Alastair!! Kind regards Ed
