As an advise: looking as how the boiler is inside, and despite the possible responsability of the manufacturer, you should talk with the guy that sold you the place (with the boiler already installed) and ask him for the boiler maintenance. It could have something to do with it
Thanks for your advice - sadly the owner who installed the boiler died...and it is a 1999 model. The maintenance stopped a while ago I think. There’s no handbook to our house unfortunately! Thanks though.

I know that boiler I have it’s twin in Cornwall
