Seb and James did the same course during lockdown last year. I can just see you all sniffing glasses and going on about strawberries and peaches next time you drink together! What fun!

Have signed up for your podcast, looking forward to hearing it. Must confess to being intrigued by your 3.19€ white, any clues? But agree with you on the quality and price of Portuguese wines, whenever we drive to UK car is laden to the limit allowed. Recently tried a Murganheira Black Label bubbly. For the price exceptional.

Q. Do you prefer Portuguese wine?

A. Is there any other.....?

Hey Geoff - good to hear from you and thanks for following our wine side of things. We went to Borba not too long ago and were surprised by the value of the wines there - especially from the cooperative directly. We bought a couple of easy drinking cases of the white (with a big green B on it) for even less than €3 - it's easy drinking but not amazing. BUT the one I was referring to is a wine from Herdade do Peso (Sogrape) which we discovered in a Lisbon restaurant. It was €18 there (but was at the Time Out market) but then we found it in Makro for €3.19! It's the Vinha da Monte 2020 - weird label, not on their website (https://www.herdadedopeso.pt/vinhos/). We loved it and thought it had a lot about it. I first started drinking wine (and paying attention!) in Cape Town and fell in love with Chenins which at the time were 70% of the white grapes and cheap as chips! I still love Chenin Blanc and this reminded me of that - is complex the right word? (I shall check my WSET book!). We've liked the Herdade do Peso Trinca Bolotas (Branco) since we arrived - we call it "pig wine" and it's usually around €6-7 in any supermarket. BUT this is better...just weird that the label we photographed isn't on the internet anywhere?! I might go and buy some more!!

Hi Alastair, my wife is partial to the Herdade do Peso Sossego Branco at around 3.50€ when on offer. Will look out for the Vinha da Morte and try the Trinca Bolotas. Thanks for the recommendations. It's a never ending journey of discovery...Best regards.
